Former Abia State governor and current senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has accused members of Nigeria’s political elite of sponsoring Boko Haram in a bid to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Kalu alleged that the recent resurgence in terrorist activities across the country is politically driven, orchestrated by individuals desperate for power.

“The political class is behind Boko Haram,” Kalu said. “They are using terrorism as a tool to fight Tinubu, just as they did with previous administrations.”

Pressed for specifics, the former Senate Chief Whip pointed to a network of politicians, influential business figures, and senior civil servants as those responsible for fuelling insurgency.

“Some of them are not motivated by money but by a desire for political power,” Kalu stated. “They want to dismantle the current system just to take control. That’s not how leadership should be attained.”

He described the worsening insecurity in Nigeria as a deliberate campaign, allegedly funded and supported by those dissatisfied with the Tinubu-led government.

“These power seekers are using insecurity as a weapon,” Kalu continued. “They are deliberately sabotaging the country to create the impression that Tinubu has failed.”

Calling for patriotism and unity, Kalu urged Nigerians to rise above political sabotage and focus on national development.

“If we truly love this country, we must look beyond politics and care for the ordinary Nigerian. We need to work together to build a better future,” he said.

Kalu’s comments followed the killing of nine passengers on Sunday by suspected Boko Haram insurgents using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Mairari Village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

Reacting to the attack, Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, condemned it as “inhumane” and called on the military to intensify efforts to reclaim Guzamala from terrorist control.

Similarly, Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, expressed alarm over the renewed wave of terrorist attacks in the state, describing the development as a serious threat to peace and stability.
