INEC declares Soludo winner after sweeping all 21 LGAs in Anambra poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, winner of the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election, securing a second term in office.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, announced the result at INEC’s state collation centre in Awka on Sunday, confirming that Soludo won in all 21 local government areas of the state.

According to the official figures, Soludo polled 422,664 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes.

Omoregie said a total of 2,788,864 voters were registered for the election, while 598,229 were accredited. He added that 584,054 votes were valid, 11,244 were rejected, and the total votes cast stood at 595,298.

“There were areas affected by disruptions and cancellations across some wards in Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South, and Onitsha South LGAs, amounting to 10,481 votes. However, the margin of lead is greater than the total number of votes cancelled, and therefore does not affect the outcome of the election,” the Returning Officer said.

He continued: “Having scored the highest number of valid votes and satisfied the constitutional requirements, I hereby declare Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance as the winner of the 2025 Anambra State governorship election and return him elected.”

The election was generally peaceful, with observers reporting improved logistics and faster accreditation compared to 2021, despite isolated incidents in some polling areas.

Soludo’s victory extends APGA’s hold on Anambra, continuing the party’s two-decade-long dominance in the state.
