A major leadership transition is underway in the Nigeria Police Force following the voluntary retirement of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, Frank Mba, after 34 years of service.
Mba’s departure comes amid broader changes in the police hierarchy following the retirement of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the appointment of Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the new head of the force.
Sources indicated that Mba retired alongside eight other senior officers, although their identities had not been publicly disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
Over the course of his career, Mba built a reputation as one of the most visible and articulate officers in the force. He previously served as Force Public Relations Officer and spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a cadet officer and graduated as the best cadet in academics from the Nigeria Police Academy.
Beyond policing, Mba also pursued a distinguished academic career. A member of the Nigerian Bar Association, he studied law at the University of Lagos and was called to the bar in 2002 after training at the Nigerian Law School. He later earned a Master’s degree in Law with distinction from the University of Dundee.
Mba also attended several high-level professional programmes, including the FBI National Academy, and leadership courses at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
His international experience included participation in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007.
Throughout his career, he served in various strategic roles across operations, investigations and administration. His postings included Area Commander in Ajah and Festac in Lagos, Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Commissioner of Police in charge of the Border Patrol Force at Force Headquarters, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Panti, Lagos.
In a farewell message, Mba expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the country.
He also thanked Nigerians for their support, describing policing as a challenging but noble profession and saying he was proud to have contributed to national security.
Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission has invited seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police for promotion interviews to fill vacant Deputy Inspector-General positions as part of efforts to strengthen the force’s management team.
Those invited for the screening exercise are Margareth Ochalla, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zacharia Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman and Umar Shehu Nadada.
The commission said the officers are expected to appear before it for the promotion exercise at its headquarters on Friday.
