Governor Siminalayi Fubara has carried out a major reorganisation of his inner cabinet with the appointment of a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and a new Chief of Staff, in what is widely seen as a decisive administrative reset in Rivers State.

In a Special Government Announcement issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026, the governor named Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new SSG and Barrister Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff.

The statement, signed by Chief Press Secretary Onwuka Nzeshi, confirmed that both appointments take immediate effect. It also disclosed that the swearing-in ceremony would be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.

“The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff,” the statement read, adding that the appointments are effective immediately.

Wokoma succeeds Benibo Anabraba, while Ewule replaces Edison Ehie, whose position had been the subject of intense political speculation in recent months.

The leadership changes come against the backdrop of the prolonged political crisis that unsettled governance in the state and triggered the intervention of President Bola Tinubu. The crisis had strained relations between Fubara and his former political ally, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Although the state government did not directly link the appointments to the recent reconciliation between the two political figures, observers interpret the move as part of efforts to consolidate peace and reassert executive control following months of factional tension.

Ehie’s role, in particular, had attracted public attention, with reports suggesting he maintained influence within the administration even amid uncertainties surrounding his official status during the height of the political standoff.

With the appointment of Wokoma and Ewule, Fubara appears to be tightening his administrative structure and redefining his governing team as he moves to stabilise the political environment and refocus on governance priorities.
