The leadership of the Accord Party has thrown its weight behind Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the 2026 governorship election, endorsing him for a second term and dismissing reports that the party had adopted the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The endorsement was announced in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the party's state chairmen in Osogbo on Tuesday.
The communiqué, made available by the Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, said the decision followed the leaders' assessment of Governor Adeleke's performance in office, which they described as a demonstration of purposeful leadership and good governance.
According to the party, Adeleke's administration has strengthened public confidence in the Accord and positioned it for greater electoral success.
The forum pledged to mobilise party members and supporters across the country to ensure the governor's victory at the polls, disclosing that a nationwide campaign structure had already been put in place to coordinate the mobilisation effort.
The party also debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that it had endorsed the APC governorship candidate, insisting that its unanimous support remains with Governor Adeleke.
It urged the governor to retain his membership of the Accord after the election, arguing that his continued leadership would help consolidate the party's structures and expand its national influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Beyond the endorsement, the party leaders appealed to Adeleke to help resolve the lingering issues within the party's National Working Committee (NWC) and provide greater support for the Osun chapter to strengthen its organisational capacity before the governorship election.
The communiqué was jointly signed by the Chairman of Chairmen, Alhaji Iliyas Badanga; Deacon Fred Obi, representing the South-South; Nze Edwin Ikechukwu (South-East); Hamman Mohammed (North-East); Oladele Oladeji (South-West); and Isah Adamu Bello (North-West).
Also at the meeting was the National Chairman of the Accord Party, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, who commended Adeleke's achievements in office and described him as "an agent of positive change."
"We are proud of Mr Governor, going by his accomplishments and popularity among the people of Osun State.
"Governor Adeleke is the candidate of Accord in whom we are all pleased," Mgbudem said.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to party unity and discipline, expressing optimism that the Accord would emerge stronger under Adeleke's leadership and record improved electoral fortunes across the country.
