Bayelsa Deputy Gov Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo Dies Suddenly at Govt House

Bayelsa State was plunged into grief on Thursday, December 11, 2025, following the sudden death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

The 60-year-old politician reportedly collapsed in his office at the Government House, Yenagoa, around 1:30 p.m. Eyewitnesses described frantic efforts by aides and security personnel to stabilize him before he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Sources within the state government, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Ewhrudjakpo’s condition was critical upon arrival at the hospital, with preliminary reports pointing to a possible cardiac incident.

Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo had served as Bayelsa State’s deputy governor since 2020. Prior to that, he represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, earning recognition for his legislative influence and leadership in several key Senate committees.

His sudden passing has sent shockwaves across the state’s political landscape, with condolences pouring in from leaders, colleagues, and residents, as government officials prepare to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding his death.
