The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday inaugurated the Edo State chapter of the Grassroots Mass Mobilisation Support Group (GMMSG), tasking members to work towards securing victory for the party in next year’s local government elections and beyond.

Speaking during the inauguration in Benin City, the group’s National President, Hon. Faisal Mohammed, said the GMMSG would embark on an aggressive mobilisation strategy to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in 2027, in line with the target earlier set by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Mohammed praised the governor’s performance, noting that his efforts align with Tinubu’s development agenda for the state.

“We have seen the good work the governor is doing, which is in line with the president’s vision for the people. We are satisfied, and this group is open to everyone who shares this commitment,” he said.

He urged members to begin preparations for the forthcoming local government elections, stressing that the party must win all available seats.

National Secretary of the group, High Chief Patrick Chime, added that GMMSG membership is exclusively for card-carrying APC members. He urged them to spread the message to every ward, pointing out that the amended APC constitution now formally recognises registered support groups.

On her part, Edo State Coordinator of GMMSG, Princess Omoyemwen Adeyinka-Afolabi, said the chapter would deploy its members into all local councils to engage communities directly.

“Our vision is clear — to strengthen grassroots participation, amplify the voices of the people, and ensure no one is left out of governance and development,” she said.

She further stated that the state chapter’s mission is to mobilise for inclusive governance, promote unity, support credible leadership that prioritises the welfare of the masses, and advance social justice and equity.

“We understand that the real power lies with the people. Villages, towns, and local communities form the foundation of democracy. That is why GMMSG is dedicated to creating a platform where the concerns, hopes, and talents of the people are heard and acted upon,” Adeyinka-Afolabi said.
