The Rivers State Government has revoked the N134 billion contract for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat complex, earlier awarded under the administration of former Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd.).
The cancellation was approved during a State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt.
According to the Council, the contract was grossly inflated and did not follow due procurement processes. Consequently, the contractor has been directed to refund the N20 billion mobilisation fee already paid by the state.
The Council also constituted a six-member committee headed by Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu to assess and recommend suitable sites for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state, to enhance the conduct of external examinations.
Additionally, the flood control committee chaired by the deputy governor was instructed to intensify efforts to tackle flooding across affected areas of the state, with an appeal to residents to desist from blocking drainage channels.
