The Nigerian Senate has begun investigating a petition from Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, over the alleged inclusion of non-indigenes in the list of candidates representing Bauchi in the Nigerian Air Force’s basic military training course.
The petition, submitted during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central), raised concerns that individuals not originally from Bauchi State were falsely listed as indigenes in the recruitment process.
Governor Mohammed, in his petition, condemned the development, describing it as detrimental to the interests of genuine Bauchi applicants and an attempt to marginalise the state.
“The inclusion of non-indigenes in Bauchi’s quota is unacceptable and undermines the chances of our qualified youths,” the governor stated.
Following the presentation of the petition, Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the matter to the Senate Committees on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, and the Air Force, for thorough investigation.
Akpabio directed both committees to examine the petition and report their findings back to the Senate within seven days. “The petition will be considered at the committee level, and we expect a detailed report within a week,” he said.
