The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday defended President Bola Tinubu, insisting he remains fully engaged in governing Nigeria despite claims from former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Obi had raised concerns over the President’s visibility, alleging that Tinubu spent 196 days abroad in 2025 - more than he spent within Nigeria - and that Nigerians had not heard directly from him since December 2025 amid rising economic hardship and insecurity.

In a statement signed by APC spokesman Seye Oladejo, the party said the President is neither missing nor absent from his constitutional duties. “He is actively involved in the complex and demanding work of statecraft, which includes policy coordination, security oversight, diplomatic engagements, and economic reforms,” Oladejo said.

The spokesman emphasised that governance is not measured by public appearances or media visibility, but by the quality of decisions, policies implemented, and outcomes delivered in the national interest. He added that Tinubu’s schedule is guided by national priorities rather than political commentary, noting ongoing efforts in economic reforms, security coordination, and international diplomacy to position Nigeria for sustainable growth.

Tinubu departed Lagos on December 28, 2025, for Europe to conclude end-of-year engagements and prepare for an official visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The trip, at the invitation of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026), which began Monday.

Oladejo urged political actors to engage constructively, offering ideas and alternatives that advance national development instead of making statements that could generate unnecessary public concern.
