The Northern Christian Youth Coalition (NCYC) on Thursday called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately remove the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, citing “grave allegations” that threaten the integrity of Nigeria’s security architecture.
In a statement released by its National Coordinator, Jeremaid Hudso Bako, the group said the call was aimed at upholding accountability and restoring public confidence in government institutions.
Bako welcomed the recent dismissal of Farouk Ahmed, former CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), as a positive step toward promoting transparency in public service. However, he urged that the same standard be applied to other high-ranking officials facing serious allegations.
“The accusations against Bello Matawalle are not only severe but also deeply troubling, as they concern matters of national security that are central to the stability and safety of our nation,” Bako said.
He added, “Reports indicate that he has been implicated in activities that compromise the integrity of our defence apparatus and, by extension, the safety of citizens. These allegations are grave and cannot be overlooked.”
The NCYC emphasized that the Tinubu administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance must be matched with decisive action against officials whose conduct raises serious questions about integrity.
