President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenures of the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service by 18 months.
The extension affects Sylvester Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and Kemi Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Under the new arrangement, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will expire on June 30, 2028.
The approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in the two services and provide their respective boards with adequate time to appoint replacements.
Tinubu also praised the two officials for the reforms recorded under their leadership and charged them to build on the progress achieved.
Nwakuche was nominated by the President to head the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, with the Senate confirming his appointment in March 2025.
Nandap was nominated to lead the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.
The tenure extensions will allow both service chiefs to continue in their positions beyond their previous timelines while the process of appointing their successors is addressed.
