Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has debunked rumours suggesting that he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirming his commitment to the party and his administration’s development agenda.
Adeleke made the remarks on Monday during the flag-off of the dualisation of the 3.5km Ila township road in Ila-Orangun. He stated that his focus remains on delivering quality governance to the people of Osun State.
“I am glad we are here today to commence the dualisation of the Ila township road despite the uncertainties across the country. I have sworn to God and to the good people of Osun that I will not relent in serving them, and I remain steadfast to that vow,” Adeleke said.
The governor revealed that his administration has completed over 175 kilometres of road reconstruction, rehabilitation, and renovation, with several major dualisation and flyover projects currently underway across the state.
While flagging off the dualisation of the Ikirun-Ila-Odo expressway, Adeleke underscored the significance of the 39km road stretching from Osogbo through Ikirun, Inisha, Okuku, and Ijabe to Ila Odo at the Kwara State boundary.
“The completion of this road project is a top priority for this administration, and by God’s grace, we intend to deliver the second phase, which is nearly as long as what was achieved in 12 years, within just 12 months,” he added.
Adeleke described the projects as part of a new development era for Osun, saying: “This is not an accident of history. Almighty God has designed our paths and our future.”
Oyebamiji to APC supporters: Ignore Adeleke defection rumours
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship hopeful, Bola Oyebamiji, has urged APC supporters to disregard rumours of Governor Adeleke’s defection to the party.
During a visit to the Ijesa-North federal constituency, Oyebamiji criticised Adeleke’s administration for mismanaging the state’s resources despite a significant increase in federal allocations.
“Osun has enjoyed a financial boom, receiving over 300 per cent of its previous allocations, yet there is little to show for these resources,” Oyebamiji said.
He assured party loyalists that the APC leadership remains firmly in control. “Our leader, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has asked me to assure you that there is no cause for alarm. No one will hijack the fruits of your labour. Our leaders are fully in charge,” he said.
On the ongoing local government crisis, Oyebamiji stressed that efforts were being made to protect the interests of elected officials. “Our Minister is working hard to ensure justice prevails. By God’s grace, our councils will remain under the control of our elected chairmen and councillors until we reclaim power in 2026,” he added.
