Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stirred fresh political controversy after alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu bluntly warned Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, during their recent meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In a statement released on Thursday, Fayose said he was revealing the “untold story” of the closed-door meeting, claiming that Makinde was confronted over his political posture ahead of the 2027 general elections and his strained relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Fayose alleged that Makinde did not attend the meeting alone, claiming he went with Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, because he “lacked the courage” to face the President by himself.
According to Fayose, President Tinubu drew a clear line between governance and partisan politics, telling Makinde he was open to discussing official matters relating to Oyo State but not political grievances.
He claimed the President told Makinde that if his complaints were political - including accusations that Tinubu was working towards a one-party state - he should continue to express them publicly rather than privately recanting.
Fayose further alleged that Tinubu made it clear he was not expecting Makinde’s support in the 2027 elections and that he would remain loyal to his own party.
On the rift between Makinde and Wike, Fayose said the President reaffirmed his confidence in the FCT minister, stressing that any disagreement between the two governors was personal and should not involve him.
He suggested that the tone of the meeting explained why Makinde later told journalists he was “comfortable in the PDP,” adding that the Oyo governor had no political future in the APC.
Fayose also questioned Makinde over the handling of a reported N30 billion federal intervention fund released after the January 2023 Ibadan explosion, challenging him to account for the money.
The claims have intensified political tensions within the PDP and added to growing speculation over alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
