Olajide Adediran, alias Jandor, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State during the 2023 general elections, has expressed displeasure over the verdict of the state Election Petitions Tribunal which upheld the re-election of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The PDP candidate had argued in his motion, alongside his formal petition in which he challenged the return of Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, in the March 18, 2023 governorship elections in Lagos State.
However, Justice Mikhail Abdullahi held that Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Hamzat, were qualified to contest the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state under section 177 of the constitution.
The judge also noted that they were members of political parties and educated up to school certificate level.
Reacting to the development, Jandor said the ruling was quite unfortunate as the panel refused to consider the credibility and convincing evidence presented before it to challenge the qualifications of the APC and Labour Party candidates by his (Jandor) legal team.
He added that the decision of the tribunal to uphold the emergence of Sanwo-Olu was contrary to the provisions of the constitution and the Electoral Act 2022, especially “on issues bothering on qualification of a candidate in an election.”
This was contained In a statement issued on Monday by the Head, Media and Communications for the Jandor4governor Campaign Organisation, Gbenga Ogunleye.
The statement partly read, “JANDOR, however, assured the good people of the state that Lagos PDP will study the judgment and decide on the next step to be taken.
“This is not the end of the electoral process, it is just another stage. We will study the judgment and take decisions in the best interest of Lagosians.”
