The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied reports suggesting that naval officer Lieutenant A.M. Yerima was trailed by suspected assailants in Kubwa on Sunday, following his recent confrontation with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Military sources had claimed that Yerima noticed two unmarked Hilux vans following him from the NIPCO Station off the Kubwa Motorway and through Gado Nasco Road, prompting him to take evasive measures to avoid the occupants of the vehicles.
But in a statement on Monday, the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the circulating reports were baseless and not supported by any official complaint or intelligence.
“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt Ahmed Yerima,” she said.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.”
She advised members of the public to disregard the claims and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing public fear and tension.
Adeh also urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police division to support ongoing security efforts across the FCT.
