Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023 election, has disowned images circulating on social media that claim he met with United States President Donald Trump and Lagos transport union leader, Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo).
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, in a statement on Wednesday, said the photographs were “fake and doctored,” stressing that the reports accompanying them were entirely false.
“One of such images purports to show me with US President Donald Trump, alongside a fabricated claim that he praised me. Another seeks to depict me with MC Oluomo in his office. Let me state categorically that both pictures are fake and doctored,” Obi declared.
He described the fabrications as part of a wider problem of disinformation in Nigeria, warning that such acts are designed to mislead the public and divert attention from the real issues.
“These fabrications highlight the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in our society. They are not only misleading but deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public,” he said.
Obi urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and to verify information before sharing, adding that if he had attended such meetings, he would have personally made them public on his official social media handle.
“My politics has never been about seeking praise or cheap publicity; it is about confronting the real problems of Nigeria and working towards solutions grounded in integrity, accountability, and transparency,” he noted.
