2027: Court Declares Okorocha Winner Of APC Imo West Senatorial Primary

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled in favour of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, in a dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Imo West Senatorial District, ordering Governor Hope Uzodinma to stop parading himself as the party’s candidate.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the judgment on Thursday, holding that Uzodinma did not emerge victorious from the APC primary election conducted on May 18 and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The judge said the evidence before the court established that Okorocha won the majority of votes cast during the primary election.

Consequently, the court recognised the former governor as the winner of the exercise and directed the APC to submit his name as its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.

The order bars Uzodinma from continuing to present himself as the party’s candidate for the senatorial contest scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The judgment marks a significant development in the contest for the APC ticket in Imo West, with the court’s directive placing Okorocha in line to represent the party in the forthcoming election.
