PSC approves promotion of 93 senior police officers, names 13 new AIGs

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to higher ranks, including the elevation of 13 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs).

The promotions followed the successful completion of written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the commission at its headquarters in Abuja.

The approvals were part of the resolutions reached at the PSC's plenary meeting held on Wednesday at its Corporate Headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory.

The development was announced in a statement issued by the commission's spokesman, Torty Kalu.

According to the statement, 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs), while 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were elevated to Deputy Commissioners of Police. The commission also approved the promotion of 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.

The newly promoted AIGs are Itam Nnaghe Obono, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Adebor, Isa Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Afegbua B. Rashid, Edozie Hycenth Azuka, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.

Those elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police are Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na'aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab A. Pembi.

In addition to the promotions, the commission approved the confirmation of appointment of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).

Speaking after the exercise, PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to regard their elevation as a reward for dedication and a challenge to deliver more effective service to the nation.

He called on the newly promoted officers to remain committed to professionalism, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Argungu also cautioned them against interfering in civil matters, especially land disputes, stressing that police officers should avoid actions capable of undermining public confidence in the Force.

The PSC chairman further urged the officers to safeguard their reputation and conduct themselves in a manner that would preserve their integrity during and after their years in service.

"There is life after retirement. Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you," he advised.
