NNPP Disowns Kwankwaso, Apologises to Tinubu over Verbal Attacks

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has issued a formal apology to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over recent verbal attacks by its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a statement released on Sunday in Lagos, the party distanced itself from Kwankwaso’s remarks, describing them as personal opinions that do not reflect the party’s position. The NNPP also warned the former Kano State governor to desist from using the party’s platform to criticise Tinubu or the APC, noting that he had long been expelled.

“We tender an unreserved apology to President Tinubu and the entire APC, led by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for the unwarranted insults and derogatory remarks made by Rabiu Kwankwaso,” said Dr. Oginni Olaposi, NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary.

Olaposi reiterated that Kwankwaso is no longer affiliated with the NNPP following the official termination of the Memorandum of Understanding between the party and the Kwankwasiya Movement.

“Kwankwaso has no legal or moral right to speak for the NNPP or use its name to launch attacks,” Olaposi stressed. “He should take responsibility for the defection of his loyalists to the APC instead of casting blame.”

He added that under the leadership of party founder and Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the NNPP remains committed to constructive political engagement and nation-building.

“Dr. Aniebonam has never promoted or endorsed reckless statements against any constituted authority in Nigeria,” the spokesman said.

Olaposi cited multiple court rulings affirming Kwankwaso’s expulsion, including a judgment by the Abuja High Court on April 3, 2025, and others from Abia State and the FCT High Courts.

He further urged media organisations and the general public to stop identifying Kwankwaso as a member of the NNPP.

“Kwankwaso is no longer part of our party. He leads the Kwankwasiya Movement and not the NNPP. Any comments he makes are entirely personal and should not be attributed to us,” Olaposi concluded.
