The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on all seven counts of terrorism brought against him by the Federal Government.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho ruled that the prosecution established beyond reasonable doubt that Kanu made multiple inflammatory broadcasts encouraging violence, attacks, and killings in furtherance of the Biafra separatist campaign.

The court held that the evidence tendered - largely audio recordings and testimonies - stood unchallenged, as Kanu failed to dispute or counter any of the broadcasts attributed to him.

According to the judge, the broadcasts were clearly aimed at endangering public safety and inciting widespread instability across the South-East.

Kanu’s conviction on all counts now sets the stage for the sentencing phase, which will determine the penalties he faces under Nigeria’s terrorism laws.
