All Progressives Congress has produced Kingsley Ogundu Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chinda, who represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, emerged unopposed during the party’s governorship primary held in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
The lawmaker is widely seen as an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and shares the same Ikwerre ethnic background with the former Rivers governor.
Announcing the result, Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Bitrus Kwamoti, said Chinda secured 268,497 votes from delegates across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Kwamoti declared that the exercise was conducted in line with the constitution and guidelines of the APC.
“I, Kwamoti Bitrus, chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the Rivers State Governorship Primary Election held on this 21st day of May, 2026,” he said.
“The name of the aspirant, who is the sole aspirant, is Chinda Ogundu Kingsley. He scored a total of 268,497 votes.”
He subsequently returned Chinda as the APC governorship candidate for Rivers State.
Several politicians earlier linked with the race, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara, had withdrawn from the contest before the primary election.
