The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has ordered Jordan Ezenwo Nyesom-Wike, son of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to produce his American passport in court in a $2.1 million land dispute.
Justice Sylvanus Oriji gave the order on Tuesday during the continuation of the trial in suit number CV/008/2026, filed by Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited.
The order followed an application by counsel for the claimants, Hamza Dantani, during the cross-examination of Jordan, who was presenting his defence.
Jordan, who was represented by Ogwu Onoja, SAN, adopted his statement on oath and denied the allegations contained in the claimants' case.
During cross-examination, Dantani asked him where he was on September 26, 2025.
Jordan replied that he was outside Nigeria on the date.
Asked which passport he used to travel, he said he travelled with his American passport and could produce it if required.
Following the response, Dantani asked the court to order the defendant to produce the passport.
Justice Oriji granted the application and directed Jordan to present the document in court.
The judge also granted an application by Dantani for the defendant to write his full name and signature five times each on plain sheets of paper. The defence did not oppose the application.
The claimants alleged that they met Jordan in London before subsequently approaching him in Abuja for assistance in acquiring land in the Federal Capital Territory.
They claimed that Jordan agreed to facilitate the acquisition of 30 hectares of land in Katampe and another 30 hectares in Guzape.
According to the claimants, Jordan demanded $2.1 million for the transaction, with $2 million allegedly intended for his father and $100,000 described as his personal facilitation fee.
They alleged that the money was delivered in cash on September 26, 2025 in the presence of Adamu Sani, Aliyu Sarki and Sai Wani, while Jordan was allegedly accompanied by Onor Sandy.
The claimants further alleged that Jordan failed to provide the land after receiving the money and did not refund the funds despite their demands.
Jordan has, however, denied knowing the claimants or receiving the alleged payment.
In his defence, he also disputed the date and circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction.
He said a complaint written to the FCT Minister and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on November 24, 2025 alleged that he received the $2.1 million on September 26.
Jordan maintained that he was on a British Airways flight from Abuja to London at 7:56am on that date.
He also denied signing the alleged acknowledgment of payment, describing the signature as forged.
The defendant further told the court that the passport number contained in the alleged acknowledgment was not his current passport number, adding that the passport bearing the number had expired in 2022.
The dispute also stems from a joint venture agreement dated October 17, 2025 involving the claimants, Jordan, Apostle Associate Limited and Creekstone General Contractor Ltd.
Under the agreement, the claimants were expected to contribute $4.2 million, equivalent to N6.3 billion, for the construction of 24 units of six-bedroom detached duplexes on land in Guzape New Extension and Katampe New Extension.
The claimants alleged that Jordan was responsible for providing the land for the project.
They said they later discovered that the plots allegedly offered by Jordan did not belong to him and that another company was preparing to commence construction on the properties.
They subsequently demanded a refund of the money.
The claimants also made allegations concerning an encounter between the first claimant and the FCT Minister on December 24, 2025, after the claimant allegedly approached him for assistance in recovering the funds.
They alleged that the minister ordered the claimant to be taken to the police, where he was investigated and released on bail.
Jordan denied the allegations and described the case as an attempt to blackmail his father and extort money.
A certified true copy of a police investigation report filed with the defence documents stated that the FCT Police Command investigated the matter.
The report said the first claimant was given an opportunity to provide evidence supporting the alleged payment but had failed to produce evidence considered sufficient by the investigators.
The police report recommended that the claimant be arraigned for alleged defamation of character, giving false information to mislead a public servant and attempted extortion.
Jordan's legal team comprises senior lawyers led by Ogwu J. Onoja, SAN, M. A. Ebute, SAN, and George Ibrahim, SAN, among others.
The claimants are represented by H. U. Muhammed of I. G. Waru & Co.
Justice Oriji adjourned the matter until Wednesday for continuation of proceedings.
