The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has extended a heartfelt appeal to former Governor Peter Obi and other former members to return to the party's fold, describing the PDP as now restructured and ready for a new chapter.

Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, had exited the PDP after expressing frustration with the party's internal politics and his limited prospects of clinching the presidential ticket.

The appeal was made following an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) held in Awka on Thursday to assess the party’s condition and strategize for future elections.

In a communiqué signed by the state chairman, Mr. Chidi Chidebe, the PDP emphasized the need to consolidate its strength rather than rely on alliances with what it described as "ideologically incompatible" coalitions, which it believes may not produce the desired results.

“We extend an open invitation to all aggrieved and former PDP members in Anambra, especially our esteemed former governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to return to the party,” the communiqué read. “The PDP in Anambra is now restructured and re-energized. We are ready to welcome our brothers and sisters back home to join us in the task of building a better Nigeria.”

Chidebe also called on voters in Anambra to throw their weight behind the PDP’s candidates in upcoming elections, specifically Mr. Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr. Francis Okeke. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the polls are free, fair, and credible.

“We urge the good people of Anambra to maintain their strong support for the PDP and turn out in large numbers to vote for our candidates,” he said.

The SEC also announced the nomination of Chief Clems Ezike as the new National Ex-Officio member from Anambra, calling on the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee led by Chief Ali Odefa to ratify and forward the nomination to the party’s national headquarters.

Chidebe commended the national leadership for the successful National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on May 27 and expressed optimism that the conflict resolution framework adopted would strengthen the party nationwide.
