Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, ending years of association with the ruling party amid growing political tensions in Delta State.
In a resignation letter dated May 22, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of APC Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area, the former senator said recent developments within the party made it impossible for him to continue pursuing the interests of his people under the APC platform.
Omo-Agege said his decision came after consultations with political allies, supporters and stakeholders across Delta Central.
“After reviewing recent developments within the APC in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear that my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the party,” he stated.
The former governorship candidate of the APC in Delta State declared that remaining in the party would undermine his political mission and the aspirations of his supporters.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he said.
Omo-Agege, who served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunity to serve at the highest level of the National Assembly.
“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he added.
Despite leaving the party, the former lawmaker insisted that his commitment to development and effective representation for Delta Central and the country remains intact.
The resignation was announced in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh.
Political observers say the development could trigger fresh alignments within Delta State politics ahead of the next electoral cycle, given Omo-Agege’s influence in the South-South region and his longstanding role in the APC structure in Delta State.
