Ooni hails Igboho’s commitment to Yoruba cause

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has praised Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, for his renewed commitment to the Yoruba cause and efforts to ensure security in the South-West.

Igboho, who visited the monarch at his Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife on Saturday, sought the royal father’s forgiveness for past verbal attacks and appealed for his intervention in resolving his lingering issues with the Federal Government.

The activist, who was declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) in July 2021 over alleged stockpiling of arms, told the Ooni that he remained on the government’s wanted list and was unable to access his bank accounts due to restrictions.

“I want you to forgive and forget whatever wrong I have done to you. You are my father and you can’t do away with me. I know you have forgiven me going by this warm reception accorded us,” Igboho said.

“I am here to further seek your help as you have been doing before. I am still on the Federal Government wanted list, and I want you to help me clear my name. Also, my account is frozen and I want you to assist me with that. I know you are the one who can do it for me,” he added.

Igboho disclosed that his visit followed advice from the Olowo of Owo, who urged him to meet with the Ooni as the “overall authority” in Yorubaland.

While pledging his loyalty, the activist reiterated his readiness to work with traditional rulers to flush out criminal elements from the forests across the South-West.

“I want you to keep working on the security issue in Yorubaland. The insecurity in the North and other parts of the country is creeping into Yorubaland,” he said.

“I want you to send us into the forest. We will flush out all those kidnappers. We have the capacity to protect our people. Oodua’s descendants are not slaves to the Fulani. As I always tell people, Ooni is the head of all monarchs in Nigeria,” he added.

Responding, Oba Ogunwusi lauded Igboho’s resolve to defend Yoruba interests and assured him of his support in efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

The Ooni also stated that he had forgiven the activist for his previous outbursts, while promising to intervene in lifting the restrictions on his movement and frozen accounts.
