Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has vowed to resist any attempt to rig the 2027 general elections, declaring that the time has come to end the cycle of electoral fraud and poor governance in Nigeria.

Atiku made the declaration on Saturday in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, following a meeting with a delegation of stakeholders from Gombe State led by former minister and senator, Idris Abdullahi.

Expressing deep concern over the worsening hardship across the country, the former presidential candidate blamed Nigeria’s economic woes on years of misrule and entrenched corruption.

“Enough is enough,” Atiku said. “Nigerians cannot continue to suffer in the midst of abundant resources. The time has come to stand against the stealing of elections and reject the cycle of poor leadership.”

He pledged that the emerging coalition of opposition forces under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would work tirelessly to usher in a new era of credible, people-focused governance.

“The quality of the interim leadership of the ADC is a clear indication that we are prepared to offer Nigerians a credible alternative. We will restore confidence in governance and deliver the kind of leadership that truly serves the people,” Atiku stated.

He also expressed gratitude to the Gombe delegation for their show of support and loyalty to the ADC and its coalition movement, saying their endorsement strengthens the party’s grassroots appeal and mission for change.

“The stakeholders reminded me of the foundation we laid in Gombe when I supported the emergence of Danjuma Goje as governor in 2003,” Atiku recalled. “That gesture continues to resonate today, and I am confident in the progress we can achieve together once again.”
