A light moment turned tense on Saturday after First Lady Remi Tinubu stopped Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, from singing during her installation as yeye asiwaju gbogbo ile oodu’a.
In a video that has since gone viral, Governor Adeleke, who is popularly known for breaking into dance and song at public events, began singing while delivering his goodwill message. But the First Lady immediately cut in, asking him to discontinue the music and wrap up his remarks within five minutes.
“I give you five minutes to conclude your speech. Enough with the music, or I will switch off the microphone,” Remi Tinubu said, prompting murmurs from attendees.
Adeleke, momentarily taken aback, paused, smiled, and continued his speech, this time without singing.
The exchange has generated wide reactions across social media platforms. While some viewers saw the First Lady’s intervention as firm but necessary to keep the event formal, others argued that her tone was overly stern.
The ceremony, attended by leading traditional rulers, political figures and dignitaries from across Yorubaland, marked Remi Tinubu’s investiture with one of the most prominent honorary titles in the Yoruba cultural sphere.
The First Lady’s installation as yeye asiwaju gbogbo ile oodu’a underscores her elevated role within the cultural and political landscape of the southwest.
