The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday adjourned the alleged terrorism trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, to March 10, 2026.
The adjournment came following an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, who requested extra time to review the case file and adequately prepare for trial. Oyedepo explained that the matter had recently been transferred from the Department of State Services to the DPP’s office, requiring time to familiarise himself with the details.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr. Adedayo Adedeji, did not oppose the adjournment but urged the court to consider striking out the case if the prosecution fails to commence trial on the next adjourned date, citing what he described as a lack of diligent prosecution.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the adjournment and directed that the prosecution open its case on March 10, 2026, when the trial is set to resume.
The trial, which has drawn public attention due to its high-profile defendants and terrorism-related charges, underscores procedural delays that can arise when cases are transferred between security and prosecutorial agencies.
