Tinubu Names Bianca Ojukwu Foreign Affairs Minister

President Bola Tinubu has approved a change in Nigeria’s foreign affairs leadership with the appointment of Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

She replaces Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who resigned from the position to focus on his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was confirmed in a statement on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Before her elevation, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, where she was involved in advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and bilateral relations.

In a related development, President Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation. He previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

Enikanolaiye, a seasoned diplomat, has over 30 years of experience in the foreign service, including his tenure as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and postings in several global capitals such as Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

According to the Presidency, the appointments are part of efforts to reinvigorate Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, strengthen international partnerships, and enhance the country’s global standing.

The President congratulated both appointees and tasked them with promoting Nigeria’s national interest, expanding economic diplomacy, supporting regional peace, and ensuring the welfare of Nigerians worldwide.
