CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi has assumed office as the 35th Commissioner of Police in Abia State, taking over the leadership of the state command.
Afolabi succeeds AIG Danladi Isa, who has been promoted and redeployed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Kaduna.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, describing the new commissioner as a seasoned police officer with more than 30 years of meritorious service in the Nigeria Police Force.
Afolabi enlisted into the force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany from the University of Ilorin, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma and a Master’s degree in Peace and Security Studies from the University of Port Harcourt.
Throughout his career, Afolabi has held several strategic command and operational positions within the police force.
His previous appointments include Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department in Katsina State, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, in Bayelsa State.
He also served as an Area Commander in Anambra State and as a Divisional Police Officer in Abuja.
The new Abia police commissioner has also gained extensive international peacekeeping experience.
He served as the pioneer Sector Commander in Southern Darfur under the African Union Mission in Sudan and later as Nigeria’s Contingent Commander with the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Before his latest posting to Abia, Afolabi was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Training and Development at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The Abia State Police Command urged residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders across the state to give the new commissioner their support and cooperation as he begins his tenure.
The command said such cooperation would be critical to Afolabi’s efforts to strengthen security and ensure the safety of residents across Abia.
