Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has stated that the Nigeria Police will no longer tolerate assaults on its officers and men.
The police boss who stated this during his visit to the Enugu State Command, on Friday, vowed that any attack on police personnel would be met with an appropriate response.
Egbetokun noted that assaults on police officers were not only criminal but also an attack on the entire institution, stating that the force would collectively respond to any killing or assault on its personnel and ensure that justice is served.
“We will not tolerate any assault on our police officers, not to talk of killing. An assault on a policeman is criminal, is an assault on the IG, and we are not going to condone any act of assault on our officers, not to talk of killing any of our officers," he said.
“Anywhere there is the killing of any policeman, you must all respond collectively and appropriately. There must be an appropriate response from us. Where a policeman is assaulted, there must be an appropriate response to it.
“We will not tolerate it anymore. In this year 2025, we are going to say no to assault on our officers. We are going to say no, capital no, to the killing of any of our men.”
Egbetokun told the policemen that the force was working with the Federal Government to improve the welfare of its personnel, while thanking the policemen in Enugu State for their professionalism, even as expressed concerns about a few rogues tarnishing the force’s image.
