Segun Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned his appointment with immediate effect.
Ogunwuyi announced his resignation in a letter dated October 12, 2026, stating that his decision took effect from Monday, the same day the letter was issued.
His departure comes amid a wave of resignations by political appointees in Makinde’s administration over the past two months.
Ogunwuyi, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in government as an honour.
In the resignation letter, he said he was proud to have contributed to the achievements of the administration and expressed confidence in the continued development of the state.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” he stated.
He added that he remained proud of the collective efforts to advance the state's growth, development and prosperity.
“As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State,” Ogunwuyi said.
He concluded the letter by assuring Makinde of his highest esteem and reaffirming his loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Ogunwuyi's resignation adds to the recent departures of several aides from the governor's administration, although no reason was given for his decision in the letter.
