Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has appointed Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar as his Special Assistant on Northwest Regional Coordination as preparations gather pace for the 2027 presidential election.

Abdul-Aziz disclosed his appointment in a statement shared on his X account on Friday, saying he would be responsible for coordinating campaign activities in Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna states.

He expressed appreciation to Atiku for the confidence reposed in him, describing the former vice-president as a longstanding advocate of youth participation in politics and good governance.

“I am deeply grateful to H.E. Atiku Abubakar for finding me worthy of this responsibility. His consistent commitment to youth inclusiveness and good governance has, for decades, provided a genuine platform for young Nigerians to grow, learn, and participate meaningfully in politics,” he said.

He added that Atiku’s political legacy remained an inspiration to young Nigerians, pledging to work towards securing victory for him in the 2027 election.

“That legacy continues to inspire many of us. We will work relentlessly until we secure victory for him in 2027. Tinubu must go!” he declared.

The appointment comes amid growing political uncertainty surrounding Atiku’s platform for the 2027 presidential contest, following a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja that nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress led by Senator David Mark.

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice Peter Lifu held that the Mark-led caretaker committee was illegally constituted and invalidated decisions taken under its leadership, including the process that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The judge also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission not to recognise decisions taken by the ADC under the disputed leadership.

However, Atiku and the ADC have rejected the judgment, describing their position as one that would be challenged at the Court of Appeal.

The former vice-president has maintained that the court ruling would not derail his presidential ambition, insisting that his political activities and preparations for the 2027 election would continue.
