Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), on Tuesday dismissed reports alleging that he had resigned from office, describing the claims as baseless and vowing to institute legal proceedings against those responsible.
Musa spoke with journalists after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he insisted that there had been no discussion about his leaving office.
The minister said he was surprised by the reports and challenged those behind them to substantiate their claims.
"I am not going anywhere. I have never discussed resignation and I don't know where the story came from," he said.
He warned that the Federal Government would pursue legal action against the originators of the report.
"Whoever circulated the information will face legal action. We will identify the person and they will be made to explain the source of the false report," he added.
Musa, who arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 3:00 p.m., said his meeting with President Tinubu was part of routine consultations on the country's security situation.
According to him, the President expressed satisfaction with the progress being made by the military and other security agencies in addressing insecurity across the country.
"I briefed Mr President on the current security situation, and he is happy with what we are doing. We will continue to improve on our operations," the minister said.
He argued that the resignation rumours were being spread by individuals seeking to discredit the administration's security efforts and create the impression that the fight against terrorism and banditry was not yielding results.
"There are always people who are uncomfortable when things are improving. Security is getting better, and they want to project a different narrative," he said.
The minister also appealed to Nigerians to sustain their support for the armed forces, stressing that tackling insecurity requires the cooperation of all citizens.
He said public collaboration had continued to play a crucial role in ongoing operations against terrorists and bandits, expressing confidence that security conditions would continue to improve.
Musa was appointed Minister of Defence by President Bola Tinubu in December 2025 after serving as Chief of Defence Staff from July 2023.
