Stakeholders of the Labour Party (LP) in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, have reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Alex Otti and adopted measures aimed at consolidating the party's support base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The resolutions were reached at a strategic stakeholders' meeting convened by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, and contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the gathering.
The party leaders praised the Otti administration for what they described as visible developmental projects across Abia State, citing the Abia International Airport, the Umuomaiukwu Smart School and ongoing road projects in Nsulu as evidence of the government's commitment to transforming the area.
The stakeholders stressed the need for unity within the party and resolved that all members should be treated fairly and given equal opportunities to participate in party activities, regardless of when they joined the Labour Party.
The communiqué, signed by Ajagba and the Joint Acting Secretaries, Dr Chibuzo Emeruwa and Dr Enyichukwu Olumba, noted that members agreed to intensify grassroots engagement and public enlightenment efforts to showcase the achievements of the state government and strengthen support for the Labour Party ahead of the next election cycle.
The meeting also reaffirmed support for all Labour Party candidates in future elections, with participants emphasising that unity and collective action would be crucial to the party's success.
The stakeholders welcomed assurances from the Chief of Staff that compensation for individuals affected by the acquisition of land for the Abia International Airport had been approved by the state government, expressing optimism that eligible beneficiaries would soon receive their entitlements.
They further commended efforts by the government to address electricity challenges in parts of Nsulu, particularly Umunna Nsulu, and expressed hope that work on the project would begin shortly.
Participants also encouraged residents, especially youths, to take advantage of various empowerment and capacity-building initiatives introduced by the state government, including TECHRISE, the Abia Leadership Academy and the Smart School Initiative.
As part of efforts to implement the resolutions reached at the meeting, three committees were established to drive key aspects of the party's activities in the area.
The Empowerment Committee will identify and coordinate residents who qualify for government empowerment, employment and entrepreneurship programmes.
The Voter Education and Sensitisation Committee was mandated to promote voter registration, PVC collection, civic participation and awareness of the programmes and achievements of the Labour Party-led government in the state.
The Mobilisation Committee, on its part, will focus on strengthening party structures at the grassroots level, promoting reconciliation among members where necessary, coordinating stakeholder engagement and mobilising support for Labour Party candidates ahead of the 2027 polls.
The stakeholders also called for the speedy completion of ongoing infrastructure projects and the implementation of proposed development initiatives in Nsulu, particularly roads and other critical public facilities considered essential for economic growth.
They urged party members and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly during political activities, while promoting issue-based campaigns and democratic values.
The meeting concluded with participants expressing appreciation to Ajagba for his leadership role and commitment to the development of Nsulu, while pledging to work together to sustain support for Governor Otti and strengthen the Labour Party's position in the area ahead of future elections.
