Abure Acting APC Script to Wreck Labour Party – Abia Concerned Citizens

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) is executing a script designed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilize opposition parties ahead of future elections, a socio-political group, Abia Concerned Citizens (ACC), has alleged.

The group described Abure as an "APC mole," accusing him of sabotaging the Labour Party from within. ACC’s Director General, Rose Ugoh, made the allegation during a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.

Ugoh pointed to a recent statement by the factional National Secretary of the LP, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, who openly appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the LP crisis, as evidence of collusion with the ruling party.

"That statement was revealing," Ugoh said. "How can the leadership of an opposition party turn to the president of a rival party for intervention? It clearly shows Abure and his camp are not interested in resolving the crisis internally. They are executing a broader anti-opposition agenda."

She maintained that the majority of LP members had accepted the Supreme Court verdict on the party’s leadership and were now focused on reconciliation and party building. However, Abure and his allies, she claimed, continue to fuel division by inviting external influence and taking arbitrary disciplinary actions.

Ugoh slammed Abure for his silence when Labour Party lawmakers defected to the APC, accusing him of hypocrisy and selective activism.

"Where was his voice when our National Assembly members were decamping? Why didn’t he move to sanction them?" she asked.

She also condemned the suspension of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State by the Abure-led National Working Committee, describing it as “an insult to the people of Abia and a disservice to Nigerian democracy.”

"Governor Otti remains the best-performing governor in Nigeria today. He is leading significant progress in energy, education, industrialization, and security. His achievements are not just recognized in Abia but across the country," Ugoh declared.

The group warned that Abians will not tolerate continued attacks on Governor Otti or other party leaders committed to good governance.

“We see clearly what Abure and his group are doing. They are tearing the Labour Party apart from within and providing political ammunition to the APC,” Ugoh added.

She also faulted the reported suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, the only LP senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, by the Abure faction, calling it “part of a larger scheme to neutralize credible voices within the party.”

Ugoh called on LP stakeholders and supporters nationwide to resist all attempts to hijack the party through backdoor politics and align with those committed to its founding ideals.
