The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has suspended its December 2 governorship primary, warning that Governor Ademola Adeleke may withdraw from seeking the party’s 2026 ticket if the national leadership crisis is not resolved in line with INEC’s requirements and timelines.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, state chairman Sunday Bisi said the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers, who are crucial to conducting congresses and transmitting candidate lists to INEC, had made it impossible to proceed with the exercise.
“In the light of the foregoing, it has become inevitable, indeed unavoidable, that the PDP governorship primaries earlier slated for Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, can no longer hold as scheduled,” Bisi announced.
He stressed that although Governor Adeleke is the only aspirant who purchased and submitted forms and was duly screened, the uncertainty at the national level has forced a reconsideration of his participation.
“Because of the crisis rocking the national leadership of our party, the information at my disposal is that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the nomination of the PDP for the 2026 Osun Gubernatorial Election, except a resolution recognised by INEC is reached within the INEC timeline,” he said.
Bisi explained that the party was also unable to hold its ward and local government congresses on November 24 and 29 due to the crisis. These congresses were meant to elect the delegates who would vote in the primary.
He reaffirmed that Adeleke complied fully with the nomination timetable, purchasing his forms within the October 13–25 window and receiving a Certificate of Clearance after screening on October 30.
Bisi emphasised that the conduct of primaries rests solely with the PDP national secretariat once its leadership issues are settled. He assured that both the state and national structures are working to secure a lawful, timely resolution and promised further updates as events unfold.
