Rivers: Ibas Dismisses Report of Summoning Fubara, Deputy Odu

The Rivers State Government has strongly denied reports that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu were summoned to a meeting by the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Dede Friday, Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the government described the reports as fake, misleading, and intended to incite unnecessary tension among the public.

“The Rivers State Government is aware of a false announcement circulating on social media, purportedly from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government,” the statement said. “The fake message alleges that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, were invited to a meeting scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Government House. This is entirely untrue.”

The government stressed that no such directive was issued and warned the public to remain vigilant against the spread of disinformation by individuals bent on destabilizing the state.

“These fabrications are the handiwork of mischief-makers and should be treated as such,” the statement continued. “There is no truth to the claims, and the public is urged to ignore any such message not issued through official channels.”

The statement urged citizens, stakeholders, and media outlets to rely only on information released through credible government sources, including the Rivers State Government website (www.riversstate.gov.ng), verified social media handles, official press releases, and recognized media platforms.

“We advise the general public to disregard unverified messages and ensure they confirm the authenticity of any information through the proper government channels,” the statement concluded.
