JUST IN: 17 Reps members dump ADC, join NDC

The House of Representatives on Tuesday recorded a wave of defections, with no fewer than 17 members leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Speaker read out the notices of defection during plenary, formally confirming the lawmakers’ change of party affiliation.

Those who moved to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, Munachim Umezuruike, Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene and Abdulhakeem Ado.

In a separate development, Leke Abejide also defected from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcements were made in line with parliamentary procedure requiring lawmakers to officially notify the House of any change in party membership. The reasons for the defections were not disclosed during the session.
