The Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday questioned former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in connection with the recent attack on his convoy in Kebbi State.

The interrogation, which took place at the DSS Command in Birnin Kebbi, followed a petition Malami lodged after suspected political thugs ambushed his convoy on September 1, 2025. The incident occurred shortly after he paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Imam of Dr Bello Haliru Jumu’ah Mosque.

Witnesses said about 10 vehicles were vandalised in the attack, while several of Malami’s supporters sustained injuries. The former minister described the incident as “politically motivated,” alleging the involvement of opposition figures in the state.

Although the All Progressives Congress (APC) distanced itself from the violence, Malami pressed security agencies, including the DSS and the police, to investigate.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page Monday night, Malami confirmed his interaction with the DSS, commending the agency for what he called a professional and transparent process.

“I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) to support investigation into the attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025. I was treated with dignity and respect, and I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure that their investigation is concluded successfully,” he wrote.
