The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday took sweeping disciplinary action at its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, expelling key members found guilty of anti-party activities.
Among those removed from the party are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose; former National Secretary, Chief Samuel Anyanwu; Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Hon. Austin Nwachukwu; and several others.
The expulsion motion, raised by former Deputy National Chairman and prominent Board of Trustees (BoT) member, Chief Olabode George, received overwhelming endorsement from the more than 3,000 accredited delegates at the convention, which is chaired by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to party stakeholders at the venue, the decisive action marks a turning point for the PDP as it moves to rebuild its internal cohesion and strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 elections. They noted that the individuals expelled had consistently undermined the party’s collective interest and unity, making disciplinary action inevitable.
Many leaders said the decision had been long awaited and would send a clear message that no member is above the rules of the party.
The convention continues with deliberations aimed at repositioning the PDP for future political battles.
