The United States and United Kingdom will this week sign a series of multibillion-pound nuclear power agreements during U.S. President Donald Trump’s state visit, aimed at creating jobs and powering the artificial intelligence boom.
The deals include plans by U.S. firm X-Energy and Centrica to build up to 12 modular reactors in Hartlepool, expected to generate electricity for 1.5 million homes and create 2,500 jobs. The programme could deliver at least £40 billion ($54 billion) in value.
U.S. company Holtec, alongside EDF and Tritax, also announced an £11 billion plan to build advanced data centres in Nottinghamshire powered by small modular reactors.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the partnership “a golden age of nuclear,” while U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright hailed it as a “nuclear renaissance” to fuel global AI growth.
