POMR explains Obi’s support for ADC candidate in Anambra bye-election

The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has clarified why former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, is backing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in Saturday’s Anambra State House of Assembly bye-election.

In a statement on Wednesday, POMR spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, said the move followed the absence of a Labour Party candidate in the race due to unresolved internal issues that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to settle.

Umar explained that the ADC candidate is the widow of Hon. Justice Azuka, the late Labour Party lawmaker who was abducted and killed earlier this year. He noted that leaders of both parties, along with Labour lawmakers such as Senator Tony Nwoye, House of Representatives member Idu Emeka, and members representing Onitsha South in the state assembly, agreed to support her on compassionate grounds to complete her husband’s tenure.

He stressed that Obi’s decision does not diminish his leadership of the Labour Party or his commitment to the coalition for a “new Nigeria.”

POMR added that Obi remains steadfast in supporting LP candidates in other contests, pointing to the November governorship election where he is backing Chief George Moghalu as the party’s candidate.
