Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has thrown his support behind the opposition coalition spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while stressing that his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains firm and non-negotiable.

Speaking at an empowerment programme organised by Senator Mustapha Khabeeb (PDP, Jigawa South West) in Dutse over the weekend, Lamido said his endorsement of the ADC-led alliance was based on the pressing need to rescue Nigeria from what he described as the “failures and misgovernance” of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I support the ADC coalition because Nigeria is in distress and all well-meaning opposition voices must unite. But I am not leaving the PDP. This party is my life—I built it with my sweat and soul,” Lamido told cheering supporters at the event.

In a move symbolising inter-party collaboration, Lamido publicly introduced ADC’s Jigawa State Chairman, Kabiru Hussaini, to the PDP crowd, underscoring growing synergy among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Taking a swipe at the APC, Lamido accused the ruling party of neglecting the people and mismanaging the country. “Our three PDP lawmakers from Jigawa are serving the people with dignity. But the APC lawmakers? They are only serving themselves. The people can see the difference,” he said.

Senator Khabeeb, who hosted the event, echoed Lamido’s criticism of the APC and lauded the developmental strides recorded under PDP administrations in Jigawa, especially during Lamido’s governorship.

“Between 1999 and 2015, Jigawa saw real transformation—roads, hospitals, schools, and infrastructure. What have we gotten from the APC? Just hunger, poverty, and broken promises,” Khabeeb stated.

He also used the occasion to highlight his empowerment efforts, disclosing that over 3,000 constituents had benefited from agricultural and small business equipment since the beginning of 2025.

“We are empowering our people directly—one tool, one machine, one life at a time. This is the PDP difference,” he said.

The gathering concluded with chants of PDP solidarity, as supporters pledged to defend the party’s legacy and unite with other opposition elements to reclaim power in 2027.
