Defence Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, attributing his decision to persistent health complications.
The announcement was made on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that Tinubu has accepted the minister’s resignation.
In his letter to the President, Badaru explained that his deteriorating health could no longer allow him to perform the demanding duties of the office, prompting his departure from the nation’s top defence role.
Tinubu, while responding, thanked the former minister for his service, acknowledging his efforts in the administration’s push to stabilise the country’s security environment.
Badaru’s exit leaves a critical vacuum in the defence sector at a time when Nigeria is battling rising insecurity in several regions, heightening concerns over continuity and leadership within the nation’s security architecture.
