Soludo, Obiano Put to Rest Death Rumours, Urge Public to Disregard Reports

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and former Governor Willie Obiano have dismissed circulating rumours that Obiano had died in a London hospital, describing them as false, malicious, and irresponsible.

In a statement on Friday, Soludo’s Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, said the governor had personally spoken with Obiano and confirmed that the former governor was alive and in good health.

“I view with grave concern the reckless circulation of such malicious rumours. It is both wicked and completely irresponsible,” Soludo said. He called on media practitioners, especially online publishers, to verify information through official channels before publication, warning that spreading unverified claims erodes public trust.

Obiano, in a video message circulated on social media, also addressed the rumours directly. Speaking in Igbo, which was translated into English, he said the false reports would only serve to prolong his life.

“The truth is that I am in the United States. I am not in London, and I didn’t go to the hospital. We give God the glory. All the lies they are peddling is for them to extend my life. That is how it will be through Christ our Lord,” Obiano stated.

His former Commissioner for Information, Mr C. Don Adinuba, also confirmed the former governor’s well-being, describing the death rumours as baseless and mischievous. “Obiano has never lived in the United Kingdom. He lives in the United States of America. I just spoke with him now,” he said.

The statements from Soludo, Obiano, and Adinuba effectively put to rest the widespread speculation, which had caused concern among Obiano’s family, supporters, and the general public.

Governor Soludo wished Obiano continued health, peace, and a long, fulfilling life, urging the public to remain cautious against misinformation and disregard unverified reports.
