Amaechi announces mother's death as Atiku, ADC mourn

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has announced the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Orduah Amaechi, who passed away at the age of 89.

Amaechi disclosed the development in a post on his Facebook page on Friday, expressing grief over the loss of the family matriarch.

"My lovely mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Orduah Amaechi, has gone to be with the Lord at 89," he wrote.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) had earlier issued a statement mourning the deceased and extending condolences to Amaechi, who is the party's vice-presidential candidate.

In the statement signed by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the late Mrs Amaechi as a woman whose love, wisdom and strength left a lasting impact on her family and community.

The party said her influence would continue to be felt through the values she instilled in those around her, particularly her children and future generations.

“A mother's legacy is measured not only by the family she raises but also by the lives she inspires and the values she passes on,” the statement noted.

The opposition party prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to grant the bereaved family comfort and strength during the difficult period.

Also reacting to the loss, ADC presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, paid tribute to the late matriarch, describing her as a devoted Christian and a woman of remarkable character.

Atiku said Mrs Amaechi lived a life dedicated to faith, service and the wellbeing of others, adding that she was admired by many who came in contact with her.

He further noted that the nation would remember her for raising a son who played significant roles in Nigeria's political and public service landscape.

According to the former vice president, the late Mrs Amaechi's life was a testament to dedication, sacrifice and commitment to family values.

He prayed for God's comfort for Amaechi, members of the family and all those affected by the loss.

Meanwhile, the CRA Advocacy Network also expressed sympathy to the former Rivers governor and his family, describing the deceased as a respected mother and matriarch.

In a condolence message shared on social media, the group prayed for divine strength for the family and for the peaceful repose of her soul.

The death of Dame Mary Amaechi has attracted tributes from political allies, friends and supporters, who have continued to celebrate her life and contributions to her family and society.
