Former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has commended the successful conduct of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention, calling on party stakeholders to shift focus toward addressing Nigeria’s mounting challenges.

Obi, in a statement on Wednesday, described the convention as a significant milestone that reaffirmed the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic process, even in the face of difficulties.

He specifically acknowledged the leadership of the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, for providing stability and direction, as well as the organising committee led by former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, for delivering a successful event.

The former presidential candidate also expressed appreciation to delegates, party members, volunteers and supporters, noting that their participation reflected a strong commitment to democratic ideals.

He extended his gratitude to Nigerians at large, whose continued faith in democracy, he said, remains a powerful force in sustaining the nation’s political system.

Despite the success of the convention, Obi stressed that the country is facing serious socio-economic and security challenges that require immediate attention.

He listed economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and growing uncertainty as key issues demanding urgent and practical solutions.

Obi urged political leaders and stakeholders to move beyond celebration and embrace the responsibility of governance, emphasising that the convention should serve as a turning point toward renewed national commitment.

According to him, the focus must now be on strengthening institutions, promoting accountability and delivering policies that directly improve the welfare of citizens.

“The task before us requires unity, sacrifice and integrity. We must put Nigeria first above personal interests and political differences,” he said.

He expressed confidence that with collective effort and disciplined leadership, the country can overcome its current difficulties and build a more stable and prosperous future.

Obi added that restoring hope among citizens and ensuring inclusive development would be critical to achieving sustainable progress.
