The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20 for judgment in the terrorism case involving the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, announced the date on Friday after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six-day window earlier granted to him to present his case.

According to the court, Kanu had been given sufficient opportunity to defend himself, and having failed to do so, could not claim any violation of his right to fair hearing.

During the proceedings, Kanu’s legal team filed a fresh application seeking to terminate the case entirely. They argued that the terrorism law under which the charges were filed had been repealed, rendering the charges invalid.

The IPOB leader maintained that there was no longer any legal basis for the case and asked the court to dismiss the charges and order his release.

Justice Omotosho, however, stated that judgment would be delivered on November 20.

Details will follow as the story develops.
